Eric's Celebrity Look Alikes

Well, I took two photos of me and ran them through a celebrity look alike face recognition program. The only person appearing on both profiles is Wayne Knight. Looks like I'm Newman from Seinfeld. JOY!

I scored a goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... let me preface this post with the fact that this season in floor hockey the men have decided to play either as a forward or as defense instead of playing all over the court. So last year, I scored goals fairly regularly but this season I am a defenceman so I am barely getting any shots on goal. Well, last night in the second game of our double header I had a breakaway from center and went in on the goalie and scored in the 5 hole on my backhand. Wow! Was I lucky! That's my first goal of the season! Unfortunately, we ended up losing both games: 5-2 and 5-4. The second game I thought we carried the play and deserved to win. Bad luck I guess. So after last night's results we are now solidly placed in last place in the league. Nice! ;-)

Birthday Cards - World Records!

I heard about this yesterday on the radio and after a quick Google search found more information. Shane is a seven year old boy at CHEO hospital in Ottawa who is fighting cancer. He has been there for a year now. His one wish is to receive the "most ever" birthday cards for his next birthday, which is on May 30th, so he can set a World Record.

This will take very little of your time and will make a big impact on one little boy. Send Shane a birthday card to:

Shane Bernier
Po Box 484
Lancaster Ontario
Canada
K0C 1NO

Here is his profile.

Name: Shane
Age: 7
Diagnosis: A.L.L. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Likes: all sports, building things, video games
Dislikes: being in the hospital for long periods of time
Favorite thing in the whole world: Lego

At almost 5 years old Shane was diagnosed with A.L.L. After 1 month into the treatment he was in early remission, meaning there were no cancer cells in his blood. Shane's family was very pleased with the early results, but his protocol called for 130 weeks of treatment. Then on July 6th, 2006 Shane relapsed after completing 108 of the 130 weeks. It was a shock to everyone including his doctors. Shane may have to undergo a bone marrow transplant down the road, but the good thing is that his brother Jacob is a match. Presently, there is no sign of cancer in Shane's system since relapsing.

Vote for the Environment!

David Suzuki was on the Rick Mercer Report yesterday and he mentioned that you can 'vote for the environment' on his website (http://www.davidsuzuki.org/tour/)and send a message to the Prime Minister and the leaders of the major political parties of Canada. I went and voted today. It's interesting to note that over 45,000 people have voted so far. So go ahead and vote! It's for a good cause: The Earth!

Happy Birthday Winston

Wohooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Winston is one year old today! YEAH!

Great game last night

Great floor hockey game last night despite being on the losing end by a score of 7-4. We were tied at half-time 3-3 so our hopes were up for the 2nd half. Unfortunately, they out hussled us in the second half and came away with the win. We played well in general and two standouts were Mark and Kevin. Both played really well. Kudos boys.

Big Al is my Hero!

In more ways then one.... but last night it was because of his willingness to buy Jen poutine at the Frontenacs hockey game. Jen couldn't finish her poutine so she offered it to Erin and me. Well, approximately 6 seconds later it was GONE. !!!Yummy gravy+cheese!!! Yum! Ok... well... hmm.... can you tell I am hungry while I am writing this posting? (*grin*)

Thanks to Michelle for organizing a great night out last night. Fronts over the 67s 4-1. Yeah! 16 people came out to the game: Mark, Tracey, Erin, Me, Jen, Alex, Glen, Rob, Kevin, Jen#2, Michelle, Marie-Claire, Noel, Margaret, Gabrielle, Georgia. Did I forget anyone? If so, let me know.

FebFeb-tastic!

I had a great FebFest weekend, despite Erin not being in town for most of it... boohoo. Friday night an outdoor concert with my on my favorite Canadian bands: The Trews. The set up a big heated stage between the bank of Montreal and the Keg right down in market square. The show was opened by BullMoose from Montreal and then The Trews rocked market square for over an hour and half a half. Despite the -15 degree weather they didn't let up. In fact half way through the concert they were working so hard you could see the steam coming off the top of their heads! I talked to the base player Jack the next day and he said the heaters on stage worked really well so his fingers stayed thawed the whole time. Impressive! (*smile*)

Saturday was the Limestone Classic. Mark, Kevin, Jen, Michelle (and only 3 kids... Gabriel was at a sleepover!) and I braved the cold in the bleachers to take part of the sights and sounds of ex-NHLers panting heavily on the new ice-rink in market square. Needless to say, it certainly lived up to my expectations. Kicked off by an appearance by the official Stanley Cup, this year instead of starting the round robin game right away, they had an all-star first game: All NHLers versus the military military hockey team and the final score was 4-4. Nice! Oh, I forgot to mention there was a fun addition to the ranks of hockey stars this year: GIRLS! Yup...we had girl hockey stats: Jayna Hefford, Vicky Sunohara from the Gold Medal Winning Olympic team. And joining them was Kathleen Kauth from the Bronze Medal winning USA team. After watching how great this lady skated I think she may have been the best hockey player on the ice the entire day. V.cool! We had yummy foods during the day including breakfast at Morrison's and lunch at the Brew Pub. Noel and I scored K-Rock tuques too. Sweet! And between Friday night and Saturday during the day, my toes almost got frotbite...but I don't even care! Great day weekend all around. Thanks Kingston for FebFest, it sure holds back the February blahs.

GreenMeanies Go Down!

Yes! We have won our 1st official game of this Winter's Floor Hockey season. It was a close one the entire time and we prevailed by the score of 8-7 against the GreenMeanies. We've got the their number this Winter. We've beat them twice. (But our first game against them didn't count as a win for us because it was the 2nd game of our double header.) Yeah! We're now tied for 4th out of 5 teams! Yehaaaa!

Frustrating Loss

Well, I think I experienced the most frustrating floor hockey loss so far. After leading the entire game we lost in the last 90 seconds. Final score 14-13. We're now 0-3. Ugh! Oh well, we're playing the Green Meenies next week. Watch out!!!!!!!!!!!
